Kelvedon Hatch welcomed Mountnessing to School Road for this league encounter on the worst Saturday afternoon so far this season, gale force winds and drizzle, blowing diagonally down the pitch.
The first half started with the Hatch playing against the elements and it was soon obvious that apart from the occasional break away that Hatch would be encamped in their own half . Boca were well in control and many attacks were made down their right wing that came to nothing. The Hatch struggled to put their defence under any sort of pressure, but couple of chances that the Hatch had were shot over the bar without making their keeper having to make a save. On 30 mins the deadlock was broken when a cross from the right was spilled by the Hatch keeper Fenn, after a good save, and the Boca forward following up slotted home from within the Hatch six yard box, 0-1. Despite Boca continuing to apply pressure the Hatch defence played well enough to keep Boca from scoring again before half time.
The team talk at half time must have worked as the Hatch, now with the gale force wind behind them game, started more confidently. Hatch were now making Boca back pedal as they had the same problem kicking against the wind but too many of the Hatches passes were over hit resulting in the Hatch forwards chasing the ball. Sam Raven replaced the injured Nick Pegg on 56 mins. The Hatch eventually got a foot hold on the game and it was during this spell that two penalty shouts were turned down when James Burt was fouled, very close to the penalty area after attacking at pace and the skilful Greig Taylor was clumsily bundled over in the box. Seconds later after beating two Boca defenders on the right hand goal line, Taylor was brought down from behind, penalty awarded. Dan Demetriou placed the ball on the spot and calmly slammed the spot kick past their keeper, 1-1. Now both teams started to play some reasonable football despite the wind and they both attacked but both defences held firm. Boca should have grabbed the winner on 80 mins but their forward failed to get his head to a far post cross whilst in space, to prevent honours ending even at the final whistle.
The Hatch supporters had seen their side battle against an attacking Boca side and the elements in the first half and who had got out of jail late on in the second half but a points a point and much better than none.
