Kelvedon Hatch 0
Frenford Senior 0

Kelvedon Hatch welcomed Frenford Senior to School Road on a perfect day for football for this league encounter, with the pitch looking excellent condition.

The Hatch were soon in action when on 2 mins from a corner Nick Pegg scuffed his shot. On 4 mins James Burt outpaced his marker down the left, put in a cross that Garry Smith just failed to make contact with. On 6 mins claret everywhere as Pegg headed one of their forwards heads as well as the ball. On 9 mins Burt was put clear down the left wing, he cut in and hit the outside of the post with his shot. Seconds later Dan Demetriou was then guilty of scuffing a shot from outside their penalty box. The next 15 mins was a battle of the midfield. On 24 mins a great kick out by Danny Fenn, the Hatch keeper, put Burt clear down the left wing, he put in a great cross to the far post where Pegg headed into their keeper’s arms. On 28 mins Frenford’s forward was stopped, when clear, by a great tackle by Darren Brown. On 30 mins Demetriou had a weak shot after good play by Chris Neville. On 34 mins Kevin Marsden found space after a great through ball from Garry Smith but he shot over the bar. On 39 mins Steve Merrick was fouled and Smith’s free kick was fisted clear by their keeper. On 42 mins Brown played the ball into space for Neville but he just failed to make contact. In added time a great dummy by Demetriou brought out an excellent save from their keeper. The final action of the first half saw Burt fouled, but good advantage allowed Marsden into space, he crossed in to Demetriou who headed inches wide. 0-0 at the break.

Robbie McCarthy replaced Kevin Marsden, tweaked his hamstring, at half time. On 49 mins down the left by Burt ended with a corner. Pegg and Brown combined well with the short corner only for Demetriou to miss hit a half chance. On 53 mins it was Burt again down the left who crossed in for Demetriou who headed into their keeper’s hands. On 57 mins Burt was clear again down the left, his cross in was easily cleared but it found Pegg whose powerful shot thumped into the keeper’s chest. Yet again another battle of the midfield for about 15 mins. On 73 mins Smith passed to Burt who crossed into the danger area, Demetriou headed just wide. On 74 mins a Pegg corner from the left saw Neville head wide. On 76 mins a pass from Pegg played McCarthy in whose cross clipped a defender into their keeper’s arms. On 79 mins after good work all round McCarthy’s very weak shot was easily saved. On 82 mins Fenn made a good save after a break away attack by Frenford. This was the final action of this goal less game.

The Hatch supporters had seen both sides nullify each other out in midfield with neither keeper having too many saves to make.
