Kelvedon Hatch travelled to Hornchurch on a bright Tuesday evening for this last pre season friendly before their first league game of the new season.
It was Hornchurch who started the game the brightest but the Hatch defence held firm and thanks to Hornchurch players being offside more often than not it took them until the 30th min to score after some formidable one touch passing football, 1-0. Hatch held on and had several good attacks but were thwarted by the strong Hornchurch defence, 1-0 at the half time whistle.
Hatch came out of the half time talk and began to believe in themselves and were rewarded on 50 mins when Grieg Taylor fired home after good work by the Hatch down the right, 1-1. On 57 mins James Burt replaced Grieg Taylor and his pace was soon bothering Hornchurch's defence. Hornchuch upped their game and Hatch were under the cosh but Danny Fenn, the Hatch keeper, was in fine form making several fine saves. On 60 mins Sam Raven and Dave Hopwood replaced Tony Price and Chris Muir. On 65 mins Hatch played some good passing football down the right that ended with Danny Demetriou hitting a great shot at goal, it took a deflection of a defender and beat their keeper, 1-2. Hatch now had to try and keep their lead but Hornchurch piled on the pressure and were rewarded on 87 mins after a Hatch defensive error allowed their forward in to equalise. Seconds later Demetriou saw his shot go just past the right hand upright from way out with their keeper well beaten. 2-2 at the final whistle.
The travelling Hatch supporters had seen their side play a full strength Hornnchurch side and come away with a creditable 2-2 draw with all the squad playing well on the night.
