Summary of 2008/2009 Season
Goal Post In my report last year I commented on the fact that in 2007/2008 I felt that the Team had over achieved for the season. The way in which the Team started this season however dismissed this view in that in the very first game the Team won the EOFL Senior Challenge Trophy by comprehensively winning away at White Ensign FC 5-2.

This was then followed by the Team winning 14 and drawing 3 of the first 17 League games leaving the Team sitting proudly on top of the Premier Division of the EOFL at the end of February 2009 with a commanding points lead.

During this time there were disappointing results in the County Premier Cup and the EOFL League Cup when the Team were knocked out of both competitions by fellow EOFL Clubs.

March 2009 arrived with high expectations but unfortunately the last 9 league games resulted in a loss of form and confidence to the extent that the Team lost 7 out of the 9 games. This resulted in the Team losing the title ultimately finishing in 3rd place of the Premier Division.

The Management and players were bitterly disappointed with the performances at the end of the season but it was not for want of effort that the title slipped from their grasp. It was again another season of so near yet so far.

Next season will no doubt be extremely tough and I think that we must not set our expectations too high. The Premier Division is made up of a number of very strong teams with very good players. The standard seems to be improving year on year. However we must continue to have aspirations of playing good football in the hope that at the end of the season we can look back with some success.

My thanks go to all of the players who contributed so much throughout the season.
