The Reserves have enjoyed another successful season winning the Reserve Division 1 league title and progressing to the semi final of the league cup. Some of the football the team has played this season has been excellent which is reflected in our scoring a record of 66 goals in the league in 22 games.
At the start of the season the Reserves were pleased to welcome a couple of new players to squad in Matt Hunt and Charlie Ryan. Charlie won the Reserve players player of the year and was our top goal scorer with 22 goals.
We started the season with a large squad and a considerable number of changes to the team sheet from week to week. However, credit goes to all the players who adapted well and settled down quickly and after only winning 2 of our first 4 league games we then went on a run of 7 straight wins. The Reserves then had their bad spell of the season and only won 1 of their next 5 games. Following this, I think the combination of a regular squad of players along with the player’s effort and determination to not let their season’s efforts be wasted. The Reserves then finished their season with 6 straight wins, which proved to be strong enough and applied enough pressure to the chasing teams to win the league title.
In the league cup we progressed to the semi final, our third semi-final in 3 seasons, eventually losing 2-1 to Frenford Senior. Another great achievement for the season, let’s hope that next season we can go one step further.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the committee members and supporters of the club for all their hard work throughout the season. Without their generosity and commitment behind the scenes, the success on the pitch would not have been possible.
Also a big thank you to the players for all their effort and hard work on and off the pitch in making the season not only a successful one but also an enjoyable one especially with the changing room banter!
We now look forward to next season and as we have now set our standards high, we must endeavour to make sure we live up to these expectations.
