| 2007/2008 Season Summary |
After completing a 3rd season of managing Kelvedon Hatch FC, an exceptionally impressive record of retaining the Essex Olympian Senior Division Cup Cup and finishing 5th in the League. This marks a steady improvement although we finished higher in the League last year I felt we over achieved that season.
Kelvedon Hatch FC played in their most challenging schedule to date with the standard of football higher than ever, with no easy games.
Once again I felt we let ourselves down early in the season with several poor results such as Galleywood and Benfleet where missed chances cost us dearly. We gradually got going and proceeded to go on a run of 10 league wins to put us right back intention for the league. We entered our league fixture against Frenford, who were also fighting for the league, hoping that a win would push us through to winning the league but we lost 2-1, which ended our league dream.
Unfortunately we crashed out of the County Cup to Barking Reserves in a bizarre fashion when we had three players sent off.
We carried on our good form in the Senior Division Cup with a confident 2-0 win against our local rivals Ongar Town that set up a mouth-watering semi – final tie against Frenford Senior. We conquered Frenford with a resounding 5-0 victory that in my opinion was the pinnacle of our season in terms of good performances. The hard work that has gone on throughout the season showed off on this day and the accomplishment that the Hatch were once again in the Cup Final for the second time in two years.
The final was tight affair with Kelvedon Hatch taking the lead on the stroke of half time. M & B Club had the better of the second half with Kelvedon Hatch dominating in extra time. The reliable Ian Higgs made three fantastic saves to send the Kelvedon Hatch players into ecstasy and a deserved retention of the trophy.
All in all a good season with more silverware but the toughest job lies ahead with another push at the elusive league title next season.
The future of the Kelvedon Hatch football team looks extremely promising with young players coming through such as Ian Nickels and James Burt, who both made big impacts in the 1st team. Though Kelvedon Hatch did have a good season we will need to score more goals if we are to be successful again.
